As a child I always walked around with the photo and video cameras of my parents and grandfather. With a father being a fanatic amateur photographer and a mother working as an arts teacher, creativity came naturally during my childhood. That did not mean it was obvious for me to practice a creative profession. Only just before a career test in high school I remembered a television broadcast about photojournalism. Upon seeing the broadcast including Volkskrant photographer Guus Dubbelman I knew I wanted to became a photojournalist.
My curiosity and passion for sports drove me during my studies photography at the Technical College Ede and Royal Academy of Arts towards journalism. The choice for my final internship was quickly made and the choice fell on the newspaper I read at home for years. After arranging my internship at the Amsterdam newspaper Het Parool myself, I started working as a photographer on Monday January 28, 2002, the week before the royal wedding of Dutch crown prince Willem-Alexander and princess Maxima. Within one hour of arrival at the newsroom, I was standing on the rooftop of clothing store C&A in the hart of Amsterdam where the billboards were changed into W&M for the upcoming wedding and a career was born.
Ever since I've been active in many fields of photography and covered many news items and sports events. Many times I was working shoulder to shoulder to the photographer who encouraged me to pursue a career in photography. With the same passion for photography as when I started in this profession, I'm working on a daily basis for a variety of media and business organizations.
